Why I’m Doing The Advocare 24 Day Challenge and You Should Too!

24 Day Challenge

Are you up for a challenge? I am. Today, I start the Advocare 24 Day Challenge.

I have to admit, I’m a little nervous. One…I love coffee. Two… I love carbs, especially cake. And I definitely love a good beer on a hot summer night. But, I’m starting to love my body more, and I know I need to make a change. So, here goes.

What is the 24 Day Challenge?

The 24 Day Challenge is a way to jumpstart healthy habits and nutrition while using Advocare products. During the first 10 days, you go through a gentle cleanse (gentle as in you’re not going to poop your brains out or have to call off work.) Cleanse phase includes products like Spark (my favorite!) first thing in the morning, herbal cleanse, fiber, and fish oil (lots of good Omega 3 fatty acids.) The purpose of cleansing first is so your body can properly absorb all of the nutrients it needs for the rest of the challenge.

During the next 11-24 days, you complete the Max phase, which still includes a Spark (yes!) first thing in the morning, a meal replacement shake for breakfast (these things are seriously yummy!), and MNS (metabolic nutrition system).

The 24 Day Challenge isn’t just a fad diet where you take a bunch of supplements to become skinny (for a while) and go straight back to your old ways. It’s actually just the opposite. The 24 Day Challenge is about developing healthy eating habits and consistently incorporating physical activity into your life while maintaining proper nutrition.

I remember after I had my oldest daughter, I had about 30 pounds to lose. I know some of you may not be sympathetic, but I had never had to lose weight before. Ever.

I turned to a “dietary supplement” that was popular in the early 2000’s, and it made me too jittery to even sit still, let alone eat. Let’s just say, that supplement is no longer available for purchase. I’m happy to say, no jitters while taking the Advocare products!

You’re skinny. Why do you need to take the 24 Day Challenge?

Yes, I’m skinny by most standards. Yes, people say this to me all the time. I’m actually at a healthy weight, and my goal isn’t to lose weight. I want to feel better, and I know I have to change my nutritional status to get the job done.

Having a crazy work schedule produced some bad eating habits and no energy for exercise. The hammer fell while I was training for my latest half marathon. I couldn’t get through training without feeling absolutely awful.

Every time I would run, I felt horrible. I was out of breath, and I felt dizzy. This season was much different than my first half marathon, where I was diligent about what I put into my body and had a training schedule. This year, I added an extra 25 minutes to my previous time. Ugh.

Then, there’s the “recovery period.” If you’ve ever ran a long race, the best part about finishing is not only that the race is over, but there are tables upon tables of food after you receive your medal. Of course, there’s the traditional banana and water station, but there are cupcakes and cookies, fruit, crackers, and did I mention cupcakes and cookies? This period of recovery is also known as carb/protein heaven, except I pretty much ate carbs, no protein, and stopped exercising. I went from feeling bad to worse.

What can I eat during the 24 Day Challenge?

You can eat whatever you want during the challenge (Yay!) Of course, you reap what you sow, and the idea is to eat healthier foods with appropriate portions. The best part though, is you get to eat 6 times a day. I planned out my meals for the challenge, and I actually had a hard time coming up with things to eat!

I’m not a huge breakfast person, so I will have a protein shake after my morning Spark. My kids also voiced some concerns about the challenge. “Do we have to do the challenge too?” Yes and no.

The products are not recommended for kids under 18, but we will incorporate healthy eating habits and exercise into the home. So, everybody wins! (I did have to promise no new recipes and they wouldn’t have to eat spaghetti squash. Done.)

So, I’m doing the 24 Day Challenge to not only to jumpstart myself (and my family) into better eating and exercise habits. I also get accountability from my friends who are doing it with me.
